Project Overview
The project consists of the construction of a Panda Enclosure & Touristic Viewing Facility to accommodate two adult Giant pandas at a site location within Al Khor zoo park, Qatar.
The state-of-the-art facility will carefully balance the needs of the Pandas with a wider
visitor (touristic) experience and offering. The panda enclosure is therefore envisaged to be one component of a wider visitor experience to the Al Khor zoo Park, which together will form a prominent new tourism and leisure destination – with international appeal.
Central to the design of the site is to create a sense of discovery and a strong identity, which visitors feel and embrace from approaching the site.
Through the use of technology, it is envisaged a strong learning and educational narrative can be integrated into the building and surrounding landscape.
Targeting the following Audiences;
International Tourism (of all Nations)
Domestic Tourism (of all ages groups)
Conservation and Zoology industry experts.
School and social groups
The site is located on a plot area of 12 Ha adjacent to Al Khor Park which is a 35 min drive from Doha City Centre.
The building concept is based on the idea of home shape building that mimics the feeling of the mountain in central china where the home of pandas is.
The project is targeting GSAS 3 stars.
The Panda Enclosure and Touristic Viewing Facility project comprises the following buildings with a total BUA of around 15944.62 sqm (including all the internal green spaces):

Scope of Work
The scope of works for this project is Design and Build necessarily but not limited to: The scope of services shall include, Consultancy services for the design of the project. All required Governmental approvals/permits etc. Construction Management, Site Set-up, Maintenance and Construction, Constructability reviews, Maximize prefabrication and off-site construction, Sustainability Management following GORD requirements. The project is required to achieve a GSAS 3 Star rating, Health and Safety management, Quality Assurance and Quality Control, Equipment procurement, installation and commissioning, Testing, Commissioning and Operation, and Phased completion to provide the earliest occupation by the operator. Preparation of Operation and Maintenance Manuals for the upkeep and repairs of the building including suitable material supplier lists.
